Peanut Butter from Haiti, for Haiti

Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter (“Lavi”) is a delicious spicy peanut butter newly available in the U.S. market. The Lavi team is thrilled to connect you directly to the Haitian communities and farmers who helped produce this product. The smallholder farmers who partner with the Lavi team are from communities throughout Haiti’s Central Plateau, where peanut farming has been part of their history and heritage for generations. We hope you enjoy learning more about the farmers, their communities, and Lavi’s production process.

Following the strictest of production standards—and made with a lot of love—Lavi was created through partnerships with various organizations, including leading Haitian social enterprise Acceso Haiti. Acceso’s goal is to improve incomes for thousands of hardworking Haitian peanut farmers by giving them access to new markets. And that’s not the only benefit— each purchase of Lavi also aids in feeding nutritious peanut-based snacks to Haitian schoolchildren. For each jar sold, a healthy snack goes to a child in Haiti.

A Product Brought to You by Acceso Haiti

Acceso Haiti is a for-profit social business built by Acceso. Acceso Haiti was established to improve Haitian smallholder farmers’ productivity and connect them directly to domestic and international buyers, with the end goal of increasing farmer incomes; improving farmer resiliency through intercropping; improving and formalizing supply chains; and continuing to grow the demand for Haitian production both domestically and through the launch of export products.

Acceso Haiti works with an active network of 3,500+ peanut farmers who benefit from training to ensure their peanuts and other crops meet market needs (quality standards, production levels, traceability, and others); financing, fair prices, and cash payments; logistics support; and sustainable access to quality markets which improves their livelihoods. In addition to producing and selling Lavi in the U.S., Acceso Haiti sells peanuts to many Haitian clients who benefit from competitive prices, stable supply, high product quality, and the opportunity to impact low-income communities by purchasing local peanuts. The improved peanut value chain connecting farmers and buyers helps to reinvigorate Haiti’s local economy which heavily relies on imports.

COVID-19 Response

Lavi Spicy Peanut Butter remains a critical source of income for the small farmers whom we work with. We have implemented the following precautions:

  • Safe and sanitary procedures across our supply chain, including:
    • Temperature checks at collection centers
    • Hands-free washing stations
    • Reusable masks for all employees
  • Ongoing COVID-19 awareness training to farmers and employees, including the distribution of information sheets providing critical info on how communities can stay healthy.

When Haitian schools were ordered closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, we restructured our school feeding program, shifting to the assembly and distribution of pre-packaged food-kits available for monthly pickups at participating schools.

Please note that some of the photos on this site were taken pre-COVID-19.
